All Saints Anglican Honors Graduates

All Saints Anglican Church in Peachtree City honored members last Sunday who are graduating this spring from various colleges and high schools.

Reverend Michael Fry recognized the following parishioners and presented those on hand with a graduation gift of the English Standard Bible.

Douglas James Abrams is graduating from The Heritage School and will attend Georgia Tech. Amanda Lauren Charobee is graduating from Whitewater High School and will attend the University of Colorado in Boulder, majoring in Environmental Science and Design.

Laura L. Coffee is graduating from the University of Georgia as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and will enter the Wildlife Pathology Residency Program at Cornell University and the Bronx Zoo in New York. Thomas Kyle Daniel is graduating from Gordon College with an Associate Degree in Fine Arts and will attend the University of Georgia.

Loren Michael Davis is graduating from the Oasis Learning Center and will attend trade school. Alex Douglas Grayson is graduating from McIntosh High School and will attend the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Kristin Hutchinson is graduating from the University of Georgia with a Doctorate of Pharmacy.

Robert Brewton Jones is graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a B.S. Degree in Aeronautical Engineering and will be commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He will also pursue a M.S. Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the USAF Institute of Technology in Dayton, Oh.

John Patrick Perrin is graduating from the University of Georgia with a B.A. Degree in Risk Management and Insurance. Jennifer Ashley Safko is graduating from McIntosh High School and will attend the University of Georgia.

Kassandra (Kassi) M. Wilson is graduating from Starr’s Mill High School and will attend the University of South Carolina, majoring in Marine Biology.

Lightcast Networks Provides Low Cost Broadcasting For Atlanta Churches

BUSINESS WIRE--Lightcast Networks announces a new broadcasting service specially designed to connect Atlanta churches with homebound members and their caregivers.

People can now listen to local church services live from their own homes without the complexity and expense of radio, TV or Internet streaming. The church simply subscribes to Lightcast’s telephone broadcasting services and specifies the number of displaced members they wish to connect. Members use a simple home receiver kit to tap into services.

Edward Baker, CEO of Lightcast Networks explains that simplicity and low cost are key. “Any church service at any time can broadcast live using a new telecom setup. We have been doing this for churches across the USA for nearly five years; the good news for Atlanta is that we now have a new local dial-in which means significant price reductions over our already low costs compared to other technologies out there.”

Home-bound church members often have to listen to 3-day old cassettes. A live connection allows them to connect with the service as it’s being delivered. “We are also looking at offering MP3 downloads for those wanting easy access to church services,” explained Mr. Baker. “We have a little more testing to do on MP3s but we’re excited about the possibilities. Many larger churches already stream services using radio and TV. We’re looking to cater to people who aren’t set up that way.” According to Mr. Baker even most large churches do not broadcast Sunday school classes, and are interested in Lightcast Networks’ solutions to bridge that gap for their homebound members.

Lightcast Networks caters to churches of all denominations and has broadcast services ranging from small local church services to multi-day conventions. While church services are its primary focus, Lightcast Networks has garnered interest from the convention industry for conferences, symposiums, exhibitions, workshops, seminars and other events that people can access remotely.

“Our special sauce is in the equipment,” said Mr. Baker. “It took extensive R&D testing and plenty of patient beta-testing churches to really get it right. Now they sign up and we receive very few calls for support. I’m happy to say we are as lonely as the Maytag repair man. Lonely is great for us but not for our homebound church members. Our technology has to work flawlessly every time to bring church home for them.”

Christ Our Shepherd to Begin Study of Old Testament Hebrew Scriptures

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church will begin an 8-week study of the Old Testament Hebrew Scriptures by inviting participants to hear the story of God and God's calling of the people of Israel through the many "voices" of the biblical text. Through this study, participants will be invited to listen afresh to the witness of the Old Testament to hear God's call and purpose for their own lives and respond to that call. Soldiers Secure Piece of Iraqi Religious History

Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team are safeguarding a piece of Iraqi religious history while operating from a combat outpost next to a Christian-based seminary in southern Baghdad's Rashid district.

The soldiers of Troop B, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, ensure the preservation of the seminary, college and chapel that encompass the St. Peter Seminary of Chaldean Patriarchate in the predominantly Muslim community of Abu Tshir.

"Due to the proximity of the seminary to the COP, it became necessary to conduct clearance operations within the seminary and chapel to ensure it was not being used by criminals for attacks against coalition forces," Army Capt. David Lombardo, Troop B commander, said. "Also, 'Bulldog' Troop conducts scheduled patrols within the seminary grounds to lock access points and prevent vandalism."

The seminary opened in Baghdad in 1960; in 1991, the Pontifical Babel College for Philosophy and Theology was added to the compound.

"In 2006, coalition forces obtained permission from the Chaldean bishop in charge of the property to use the college as a patrol base," said Lombardo, a native of Waynesboro, Pa. That year, the seminary had relocated outside the country and the college became a combat outpost for coalition forces.

U.S. forces found, collected and salvaged numerous religious artifacts, such as books and documents dating back to the 17th century, helping to preserve a piece of Iraq's history, Lombardo said.

"We make sure all the religious valuables inside the church are safe," said Army Pfc. Shane Nerenberg, a forward observer from Riverside, Calif., assigned to Troop B.

The soldiers said it is a duty they don't take lightly.

"It's an honor to be charged with the duty of securing the church," said Army Spc. Michael Lavelle, a mortarman from Pittsburgh, assigned to Troop B.

Just as the previous four units that operated out of the combat outpost did, the Bulldog soldiers will continue to provide security in their operating environment and preserve a small piece of Iraq's renowned history, Lombardo said.

Men's Encounter May 10th in Fayetteville

Men's Encounter, a monthly area-wide meeting for men led by Minister Jessie Asmond, will meet this Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 8:00 AM at the Hampton Inn in Fayetteville. Each session includes time of teaching, fellowship, and a question and answer period and lasts approximately two hours.

We (Georgia Front Page, http://www.youtube.com/user/GAFrontPage) received an invitation to subscribe to a YouTube site from a group titled "Strive" out of Chicago. Being a news organization we don't subscribe to other sites as we never know what will pop up on OUR YouTube site, but we did go take a look, and listen. We thought we'd share this YouTube with you, see what you think. Currently they only have three songs posted, two are secular. We liked one, so-so on the other (but noticed a lot of people liked the one we thought was so-so, which goes to show you that music is definitely a personal thing!). Fayette County Library Hosts “Christian Writers Fair”

Acclaimed Christian fiction author Gilbert Morris will deliver the keynote speech for the Fayette County Public Library’s “Christian Writers Fair” on Saturday, May 3. The event begins at 1:00 p.m., and also features eight local Christian writers of both fiction and nonfiction. Each author will give a presentation, answer audience questions, and sign books. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments to be served.

Gilbert Morris is a prolific and bestselling author of over 20 different series of fiction for adults, teens, and children, as well as numerous stand-alone fiction titles. His writings span many genres, but always remain true to a Christian theme. An ordained Baptist minister, Morris says, “I am an avid reader of popular fiction—mystery, detective, western, and suspense. It is my ambition to write many novels with just a touch of the Christian viewpoint.” His many fans agree that, in his long career, he has succeeded in this goal. It’s a Time for Celebration at Southside Church

Southside Church celebrates a new and growing campus! After recently completing the purchase of the property and building at 777 Robinson Road, Peachtree City, Georgia from Landmark Christian School, Southside Church also broke ground on a 9,600 square foot addition to the existing 28,000 square foot campus.

The addition, designed by Foley Design Associates Architects, will provide badly needed classroom space for this rapidly growing church. Group VI has already begun preparing the site for the building and plans to complete the addition in August of 2008.

According to Chris Patton, Pastor of Southside Church, ““The leadership of Southside is very excited about what God is doing to connect with the estimated 100,000 people who live within a 15-mile radius of Peachtree City who do not go to Church. God has assembled an amazing team of volunteers and partners to create relevant and irresistible environments. The church first opened its doors back in 2004 when a group of people in the Southside area of Atlanta wanted to start a Church where they could safely bring their friends who did not go to Church - a church similar to North Point Community Church (NPCC) in Alpharetta, and it’s campus Buckhead Church in Buckhead. They were willing to drive to Alpharetta or Buckhead to attend, but knew their un-churched friends and neighbors that lived on the Southside probably would not. In the summer of 2004, this dedicated, small group of people began meeting every other Sunday night. The leadership team of NPCC encouraged and advised this group, and in fall of 2004 asked them to become a strategic partner with North Point Ministries. North Point strategic partners are independent churches that share the same mission, strategy, values, and ministry model as North Point Community Church but provide their own leadership, finances, and government.

This small group became Southside Church. They continued meeting in small groups until September of 2005 when worship services were launched with over 500 people attending the opening worship service. Like the early days of North Point, Southside held services every other Sunday for the first six months. In March of 2006, weekly services were launched including two morning service times.

Currently, Southside Church has an average 1,200 people participating in two morning worship services. During the week, close to 600 adults meet around the Southside Atlanta area in community groups for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.
